If you believe there are different standards for autistic and non-autistic people when it comes to interacting with others, which standards differ? Why?
I've observed that pressure is exerted on autistics to behave in ways that appear "normal" but there seems to be a narrowing of the scope when applied in these circumstances. Any deviation is closely observed and remarked upon, at least indirectly. The autistic will pick this up, possibly causing anxiety and/or confusion.
Why? My guess is fear. Fear of difference, someone looks like you but doesn't act like you. Behaves in ways that surprise others and they may regard as threatening to their composure.
